Nearby Spots is a mobile community for motorcycle enthusiasts, bringing rider profiles, personal garages, shared content and riding spots together. The app already existed when Xmethod joined. Our work focused on selected UX improvements, a visual concept, push notifications and the technical foundation for Nearby Plus subscriptions.
What we did
Tasks
- 1Refine navigation through the community feed and rider profiles
- 2Create a consistent visual direction for community and membership screens
- 3Implement push notifications in the existing application
- 4Configure subscription products, plans and packages in RevenueCat
- 5Connect purchase, restoration and subscription access states
- 6Test the new flows inside the existing navigation and account experience
The project at a glance
Challenge
Improve an existing community experience without rebuilding the product, while introducing a clear and reliable route to paid membership.
Solution
Refine the feed, rider profiles and subscription journey; implement push notifications; and connect the paywall to RevenueCat products, purchases, restoration and access states.
Result
The app gained targeted UX improvements, push communication and a working subscription foundation, alongside a coherent visual direction for future interface development.

The product
A mobile community built around life on two wheels
Nearby Spots gives motorcycle enthusiasts one place for the social and practical parts of riding. Members can introduce themselves through rider profiles, show the motorcycles in their personal garage, publish photos and captions, interact with community posts and open details for riding spots. The product was already designed and developed before Xmethod entered the project, so the assignment was not a ground-up rebuild.
Existing product
The new work had to fit the app's established navigation, accounts and content instead of replacing them.
Community clarity
Posts and profiles needed a clearer hierarchy so riders could move from discovery to connection with less friction.
Paid membership
Nearby Plus needed a visible paywall and dependable purchase, restoration and access handling.
The goal
Improve the experience and prepare paid membership
The goal was deliberately focused: improve selected journeys in the product that users already knew, keep riders informed outside an active session and create a clear path to subscribing to Nearby Plus. That meant treating design and engineering as one connected task. Feed and profile decisions had to remain familiar, while the paywall and notification behaviour had to feel like a natural extension of the same app.
UX improvements
Community feed and rider profiles
The visual concept connects shared riding content with the people behind it. Posts combine large motorcycle photography, captions, engagement controls and challenge information. Rider profiles bring introductions, follower numbers, trophies and garage photos into one hierarchy, while Follow and messaging actions remain easy to reach. A user can discover a post and continue directly to the rider and their motorcycles.

Nearby Plus
Subscription access stays close to the profile
The Nearby Plus paywall explains membership benefits and presents monthly and yearly plans, the subscription action, billing information and purchase restoration. The accompanying profile concept keeps membership controls and important account notifications close to personal information. Push notifications were also implemented in the existing app so relevant updates could reach riders beyond an active session.

RevenueCat
From plan selection to subscription status
We configured subscription products, plans and packages in RevenueCat and connected them to the app's paywall. The integration links the selected plan to the purchase flow and keeps subscription status available to the application. Purchase restoration and access to paid functionality were included as part of the same mechanism, giving Nearby Plus one central place for managing membership instead of scattering subscription rules across individual screens.

Products and packages
The subscription catalogue is configured in RevenueCat for the plans presented in the app.
- [02]
Purchase flow
Plan selection and the paywall action connect to the subscription purchase process.
- [03]
Restore and access
Returning users can restore purchases, while the app reads the current membership state for paid features.
Development & testing
New functions inside an established application
Development extended the existing Flutter application with the agreed UX changes, push notifications and subscription functionality. Testing focused not only on isolated controls but on the way the additions behaved inside the product's existing navigation and account experience. That was important because a technically correct paywall can still fail if status changes, restoration or notifications do not match the screens around it.
The checks covered the complete paths around the new functionality:
- Push-notification delivery and how the message leads back into the app
- Paywall interactions and switching between monthly and yearly plans
- Purchase and restore-purchase flows
- Subscription access states for paid functionality
- Compatibility with the existing profile, account and navigation experience
Result
A focused upgrade with a direction for what comes next
Nearby Spots retained the product that was already in place and gained the agreed extensions around it. Riders can be reached through push notifications, Nearby Plus has a RevenueCat-connected route from plan selection to subscription access, and the visual concept shows how feed, profile and membership screens can develop within one language. The result is both an implemented technical foundation and a concrete design direction for further interface work.
